The Mars Panda Clone Fiasco
Oscar Wilde said that “imitation is the sincerest form of flattery that mediocrity can pay to greatness”.
Well, instead of feeling great about ourselves, we at Mars Panda have been feeling rather exasperated that some relentless copycats have been cloning our brand name and trying to pass off as the real deal on social media and PancakeSwap. This is not even a classic DeFi open source project fork act, but rather a blatant scam by misdirection and misappropriating our project name.
These unscrupulous clones hurt investors’ sentiments and create distrust between them and project developers. It also exasperates and exhausts buyers, who now have a more difficult task of identifying bonafide projects with zero-utility clones. However, thanks to our wonderful community and alert staff, we discovered these unscrupulous clones and this was briefly what happened.
Telegram Groups
In mid June, the clone created numerous Telegram chat groups, masquerading as Mars Panda and enticing people to invest in them.
We proceeded to report them to Telegram support, which has been helping us remove the clone’s chat groups. However, the people behind the clone have persistently continued to set up new groups after they have been shut down.
We are actively monitoring the situation with the help of our community and will promptly take action to shut down these clone Telegram chat groups if they reappear again.
Please only join our Telegram Main Chat here and our Telegram News Channel here. These are the only two official Telegram groups for Mars Panda.
PancakeSwap
The clone has also listed a token on PancakeSwap and provided a contract address for depositing crypto in exchange for their clone Mars Panda Tokens (MPT). This is an obvious ploy to scam unknowing investors of their funds and is a despicable act to cash in on the popularity of our project.
We have informed our partner, Binance, who has activated the Binance Smart Chain (BSC) team. The BSC team promptly alerted PancakeSwap, which has since started the process to delist this clone project and prevent innocent investors from falling prey to the scam.
Repercussions from the Clones
The immediate repercussion from this fiasco is a delay in our listing on PancakeSwap. BSC needs time to push out announcements to let communities differentiate between the real and clone Mars Panda Project, so we are unable to list until the due process is completed.
The PancakeSwap team will also need some time to delist the clone project. In addition, there will be a no-action period after they have done that, before we can be listed. We will keep you updated once we get any news about the timeline.
On a positive note, BSC is now supporting us with direct technical assistance. Community-wise, BSC has shared our project with their 700,000-strong community, and we now have direct access to this large pool of users.
The Way Ahead
We will update our community once we get the go ahead from BSC for Mars Panda Token’s (MPT) listing on PancakeSwap after the process for delisting the clone has been completed.
Rest assured that we are doing all we can to ensure a safe and successful listing while preventing unscrupulous actors from harming our wonderful community.
So, sit tight, stay tuned and we will play with the world very soon!
